Kim Dao, an Australian blogger, YouTuber, and social media influencer currently living in Japan, is known for her expertise in fashion, makeup, and travel. As the founder of The Kim Dao Blog, Ms. Dao showcased the diversity and vastness of her expertise on a daily basis, earning her quite a following that ultimately encouraged her to expand her efforts to include YouTube videos and an increased presence across a host of social media platforms.
Although her rapid ascent in the digital media world might appear intentional, Ms. Dao’s original goal in creating her blog had nothing to do with launching a wildly successful career. Instead, Ms. Dao, a graduate of the University of Western Australia who studied psychology and Japan, merely wished to document her first travel experience to the country that had been at the core of her academic studies for so many years. Fortunately for Ms. Dao, The Kim Dao Blog gained a great deal of immediate traction outside of her original intended audience of close friends and family members.
Due to her tireless work ethic and the success of her blog, YouTube channel, and social media platforms, Ms. Dao was able to return to Japan for a much lengthier stay. Following several years of planning and saving, Ms. Dao moved to Japan and continues to run her blog and YouTube channel while focusing on a wide range of topics relevant to her expertise in traveling, makeup, and fashion. Ms. Dao has since garnered attention from media outlets in both Japan and Australia, and she continues to work with some of the industry’s most well known and highly regarded brands.
In what city/state was your first house located and approximately what year did you buy it?
Perth, Western Australia. I bought it during my last visit from Japan, which was a little less than one year ago.
What was your living situation prior to buying your first house? Where/with whom/etc?
I’ve been living in Japan for some time now, and even though I just bought a home in Australia, my living situation has yet to change.
What motivated you to purchase your first house?
I know that I want to eventually settle down back home in Australia, and I came across an opportunity I felt was too good to pass up.
How did you go about getting the money together to buy it?
I’ve always been very good about saving a large portion of my earnings, which is how I was able to afford to move to Japan and can continue to live there even after recently buying a new home in Australia.
When you purchased, were you thinking of it as an investment or as a place to start a family. Please elaborate.
I was thinking of it as an investment in my future, which certainly includes the possibility of starting a family.
What are 3 things you liked most about the house?
It is located in the perfect spot in my favorite neighborhood in Perth, and the architecture perfectly aligns with my own unique personal style preferences. The major motivating factor was the price, and I am still surprised by the deal I secured when buying the house.
Was there anything you didn’t like about it?
I never imagined feeling so confident in making such a major decision, but I immediately knew that this house was absolutely ideal.
Did you make any improvements or major renovations to the house?
No, and I don’t plan on making any major changes to the interior or exterior in the near future.
Please share 1-2 of your fondest/funniest memories from living there.
I still live in Japan, but I am very much looking forward to making memories in my new home in Australia.
Do you still live there or did you sell it or renting it?
I’m currently renting it out to a very close friend of mine until I eventually return from Japan. \
What advice would you give other first time home buyers?
Don’t be afraid to make a bold decision if you know exactly what you want and find the perfect home. Had I waited until the timing was more practical, I would have always regretted it.
